Our story began in 1937, when a small potato processing plant was established in Ungurpils. Today we are one of the leading potato starch brands globally and with our new legumes milling and classification line we can supply fifteen thousand metric tons a year of protein concentrates, starch concentrates and fibres both from peas (yellow and brown) and faba.

In 2021 Latvian based company IRLMD Food Solutions acquired the majority stake in Aloja Starkelsen. IRLMD FS was founded by a group of investors from many nationalities, who collectively have more than three hundred years of experience at senior management level in the global food ingredients industry. The company is led by CEO and major shareholder Maurizio Decio, who has more than 30 years of experience in various senior roles (both managerial and scientific) in the food ingredients industry.
